Nightwave isn’t a ‘girl DJ’ or ‘girl producer’ or ‘girl record label owner’; she’s a boss-ass DJ, producer and record label owner. The multi-talented Maya Medvesek owns and operates her record label Heka Trax, all while making tunes, playing tunes and waving her Red Bull Music Academy credentials in the air. Nightwave just released her EP ‘Hit it’ and will be heading to Australian shores on a national tour with twitchy dance don Rustie.

My name is… Nightwave.

By day I… Sleep, run my label Heka Trax, study, do yoga and drink nice coffee.

By night I… Make music, DJ, run my club night Nightrave, party and drink nice beer.

My favourite TV show is… Seinfeld!

The last movie I watched was… Under The Skin.

The first album I ever bought was… Ace of Base. (Lol!)

The last was… HTRK – Psychic 9-5 Club.

If I wasn’t making music I would probably be… digging through sand in Egypt and solving ancient mysteries.

I’m addicted to… googling awful tattoos of children.

The best thing about touring is… seeing the world, meeting lovely people and learning new things

The worst thing is… exhaustion, feeling emo and wanting to go home plus feeling guilty for feeling like that since you have the best job in the World.

My perfect gig would involve… all my friends on a beach somewhere like Tulum or maybe a nice yacht.

The first gig I went to was… NOFX. (Again, Lol!)

The most important thing on my rider is… beer.

My hangover cure is… a homemade superfood smoothie full of detox herbs, spicy tacos, comfy bed and trashy ’90s movies.

My favourite YouTube vid is… ‘Radio Soulwax: Cherry Moon On Valium’. Trippy and hilarious.

My computer’s wallpaper is… the Dendera Zodiac from the temple of Hathor in Egypt.
